And it All Goes Dark

Color has gone

wholly out of fashion,

white-washed with trowels

of mortar, constructing obeisance

to an ignoble aesthetic that rejects

moral character as irrelevant

Abducted, caged and wrapped in cellophane, nothing more

    than last night’s discarded take-out.

America is a nation of laws, and

its laws must be upheld, until it

                    isn’t and it’s inconvenient

                        (or fake news)

The separation of humanity from theology,

nibbled and carried off in hyperbolic

        ruthlessness and aggression.

Oceans of victimization,

distributed like so many cesspools

inspiring lunatics and tainting that which is hallowed, a

conspiratorial and Manichean view of scripture and text,

accepting the superiority of the jester’s instincts

            ignoring abstract and universal reason

Of course, I did not say that!

The overwhelming evidence is inadmissible

By executive decree. (see above)

            Subtle fires run

            under my skin, striving

            towards a perfection in lyric

but my tongue is broken

signaling the violence polemic language does

                    to the body

The mind, once enlightened

can become dark
